Rubbish London Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is made by Rubbish London in respect of the financial year ending 31 December and sets out the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business operations and supply chains. Rubbish London operates in the waste management and environmental services sector and recognises its responsibility to uphold and promote human rights in all activities.

Our zero-tolerance approach

Rubbish London has a clear zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all business relationships and to implementing effective systems and controls that seek to ensure modern slavery does not occur in our operations or anywhere in our supply chains.

All employees, directors, temporary workers, and contractors are required to comply with this policy. We expect the same level of commitment from all our suppliers, service providers, and other business partners and will not knowingly work with any party that is involved in or condones modern slavery in any form.

Our supply chains and risk management

Our supply chains primarily include providers of waste collection and treatment services, equipment suppliers, transport providers, facilities management services, and a range of professional and administrative support services. We recognise that certain parts of the waste and logistics sector, particularly those that involve manual or low-skilled labour, may be at higher risk of labour exploitation.

To manage these risks, we conduct proportionate risk assessments of our suppliers and contractors, taking into account the nature of the services provided, the geographic location, the use of subcontracted labour, and any other relevant risk indicators. Where higher risks are identified, we apply enhanced due diligence, monitoring, and engagement to ensure that appropriate labour standards are met.

Supplier due diligence and audits

Rubbish London undertakes due diligence on key suppliers before entering into new contracts and periodically throughout the life of the relationship. This includes obtaining information on their labour practices, workforce arrangements, and commitment to preventing modern slavery. We seek contractual assurances that suppliers comply with all applicable labour laws and human rights standards and that they, in turn, impose equivalent requirements on their own supply chain.

We reserve the right to carry out supplier audits and site visits, either directly or through independent third parties, where appropriate. These audits may review employment records, working conditions, recruitment practices, and grievance mechanisms. If any actual or suspected instance of modern slavery is identified, we will work with the supplier to address the issue promptly. Where remediation is not possible or cooperation is lacking, we may suspend or terminate the relationship.

Training, awareness, and reporting channels

We are committed to building awareness of modern slavery risks among our employees and managers. Relevant staff, particularly those involved in procurement, operations, and supplier management, receive training to help them identify warning signs of modern slavery and understand the steps they must take if concerns arise.

Rubbish London encourages a culture of openness and accountability. Employees, contractors, suppliers, and any other stakeholders are encouraged to raise concerns about potential modern slavery through our established reporting channels. Concerns can be reported to line managers, to senior management, or through our confidential whistleblowing mechanism. All reports will be treated seriously, investigated promptly, and handled sensitively, with protection against victimisation for anyone raising a concern in good faith.

Accountability, governance, and annual review

Overall responsibility for our approach to modern slavery rests with the senior leadership of Rubbish London, supported by our management team and relevant functional leads. They are responsible for ensuring that appropriate policies, procedures, and controls are in place and for reviewing the effectiveness of our measures.

This statement and our related policies and procedures are reviewed at least annually to reflect changes in our business, in legislation, and in best practice guidance. As part of this review, we will assess the effectiveness of our actions, consider audit findings, and seek opportunities for continual improvement, including enhanced supplier engagement, improved data collection, and strengthened training.

This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement has been approved by the leadership of Rubbish London and represents our ongoing commitment to respecting human rights, promoting fair working practices, and preventing modern slavery in all aspects of our operations and supply chains.
